Trying Out Charlotte Tilbury Makeup | Brand Spotlight

If there is one brand that I was dying to try out right after its launch, that is Charlotte Tilbury!

Everything, from the packaging, the selection of products, the looks you could create with them, the marketing campaign, to Charlotte herself, seemed perfectly curated and uber exciting. The hype didn’t wait and everyone in the beauty world was talking about it and trying stuff.

Some time has passed by and my Tilbury wishlist was growing and growing, so I decided it was time for me to just purchase a couple of things and start from there. My first purchase was the Magic Foundation and Bond Girl lipstick (John Lewis counter in London) followed by a couple of more recent online orders where I got the Lip Magic lip balm, Legendary Lashes mascara and Very Victoria lipstick. Here is the lot.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAKEUP - REVIEW

I want to mention that the order I made online on Charlotte’s website came quickly and beautifully packed. The receipt came inside an enveloppe with the name of the brand embossed in rose gold (chic!). Everything was packed in maroon paper with CT’s logo sticker closing everything nicely. It felt like unboxing a Chanel handbag. If you know what I mean 😉 (I think I’ve been watching way too many unboxing videos on youtube lately).

CHARLOTTE TILBURY LEGENDARY LASHES MASCARA - REVIEW

Legendary Lashes has quickly become one of my favourite mascaras of all time (my Volume de Chanel has got some competition!). When I put on the mascara for the first time I literally could not stop smiling because is soooo good! Va-va-voom lashes right there! Legendary Lashes is super black, glossy and gives big volume and length. If you like bombshell lashes then this one is for you.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY LIP MAGIC LIP BALM

Lip Magic is a wonderful lip balm and although on the expensive side of things ($35.00 for 5ml/0.17 fl.oz) the consistency is like solid oil so you only need a little bit of product per use. My lips feel soft and moisturized since using this balm. If you want to invest in just one lip balm that will really perform, then get this one! Just be aware that the propolis scent is a bit strong.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY MATTE REVOLUTION LIPSTICKS - REVIEW SWATCHES

Matte Revolution Lipsticks have a very interesting consistency that is like nothing else I have tried before. Matte but comfortable, soft, easy to apply, easy to wear and quite long-lasting. It’s like a mousse-wax-cream concoction. It reminds me a little bit of NYX Lip Creams but in a lipstick form. I have Bond Girl (how could I not get this perfectly named lipstick!?) and Very Victoria which is my perfect nude. Yes, I think I’ve found the one! Next on my wishlist are Amazing Grace, Walk of Shame and Birkin Brown. Basically, I want them all.

CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC FOUNDATION - REVIEW

CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC FOUNDATION - REVIEW SWATCHES

Magic Foundation comes in a beautiful 20’s/art déco inspired bottle which looks stunning in the middle of my foundation stash. Mine looks a bit messy (pic above) because I had it for a while and even traveled with it. Let’s talk shades first. It comes in 15 shades from fair to dark. On CT’s website you can see that there is 5 fair shades, 5 medium shades and 5 dark shades. I was matched to 4.5 which is the lightest of the medium ones. It is a good match for me at the moment but I could do with a shade lighter for winter. I highly recommend you go to a counter or to CT’s website to find your shade as they have pictures of actual girls who match the different foundation shades. I find this very helpful! Be aware that if you usually buy a very light colour, let’s say in Chanel or Dior foundations, you might be a darker fair or a medium shade in Charlotte Tilbury. The consistency is like a light cream and needs a bit of buffing to be applied. Skin needs to be properly moisturized before applying or it will be visible on dry patches. I would say the finish is velvet, not too matte not dewy. I like that it wears beautifully and it actually looks better as it wears during the day. It has a medium coverage. You can wear a thin layer and get a light coverage or a generous pump-pump and a half and get a solid medium coverage (see pic above). I personally wouldn’t build it up to full coverage as it would look a bit heavy on me.

So, there you have it guys! My first Charlotte Tilbury review on all the products I’ve tried so far. I am overall very happy with them. I think they are as beautifully looking as they are performing. I intend to get more from the brand in the future. I’m eyeing a setting powder and maybe an eyeshadow quad next, and of course, more lipsticks!

Have you tried anything from the brand? Something you would highly recommend?
