Believe the Hype! | Products you thought you didn’t need but you actually do

For some reason I am always sceptical when a product gets too much hype. I wonder if it’s just a trend, people being too groupie about a brand or a guru, or everybody being just overexcited about shopping for new things.

In a world filled with ‘Holy Grails’ it might be difficult sometimes to know which products are really worth the hype. I tend to tell myself that there is no way I really need a certain hyped product…

After wanders, tests, and a contemplation of my most loved beauty products, I decided to present you the first blog instalment of ‘Products I thought I didn’t need but I really did need and you do too’.

Bioderma Micellar Water. This cleansing water is the first skincare item I fell in love with. I was 20 years old at the time and I’d barely taken care of my face until that point. I’ve lost so many eyelashes and my cheeks were always red and irritated in the process of removing my makeup. I was using whatever, even toners! I didn’t know at the time what I was supposed to do with them… And then, French Pharmacy Gods came to the rescue and a pharmacist introduced me to my ‘Holy Grail’ YES HG makeup remover: Bioderma Micellar Water. Great for sensitive skin, it easily takes off makeup (even stubborn eyemakeup), removes dirt and refreshes the skin. It changed my skincare routine forever.

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. My oldest love affair with makeup has always been eyemakeup. I love a good old brown smokey eye and lots of mascara.  I always assumed eyeshadows didn’t last long on my lids and that was it. Insert here the product you NEED NEED NEED if you love eyemakeup and it just doesn’t last long on your lids or looses intensity during the day: NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. I have repurchased this product 3 times since I first tried it. Buy it, try it, and thank me later.

Brow Mascara/Gel. Before Cara Delevingne and the eyebrow craze that followed, I didn’t know I needed any sort of brow product. I didn’t even looked at them very much… poor brows. Of all the products that are currently in the market for brows, the one that I believe makes the biggest difference and it’s a very good starting point for eyebrow grooming is brow mascara/gel. I am currently switching between Anastasia Clear Brow Gel and Maybelline Browdrama in Medium Brown. I don’t think I have a favourite yet. You should try whatever grabes your attention and it’s easier to find I guess. Either way you will see a big (and good) difference right away. I really want to try Bobbi Brown’s one next.

Luminous Setting Powder. I love setting powders, specially the luminous ones that seem to be on trend nowadays. With the right foundation underneath they give a beautiful bright finish to the skin. By far my favourite has to be Guerlain Meteorites Illuminating Powder Compact. They have three different colour correcting shades. I am currently using number ‘2 clair/light’. The green pigments help conceal redness and the yellow and white pigments are brilliant under the eyes. I plan to purchase the other two shades available soon. I can see number ‘3 medium’ being a great shade for spring going into summer, and number ‘4 dore/golden’ being beautiful on the cheeks and temples during summer.  Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders have had a lot of hype and I can totally see why. They come in 6 different shades that will match different skin tones, they illuminate and perfect the skin while being almost invisible. I currently have ‘Dim Light’ (travel size) which is a neutral peachy beige shade that I think is great for light medium skin tones.
